# West Ham: Irons submit official offer for Thilo Kehrer

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) have now ‘made an offer’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer, according to Sky Sports reporter [Dharmesh Sheth](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth).**

### The Lowdown: Reinforcements needed

With summer signing Nayef Aguerd sustaining an [ankle injury](https://talksport.com/football/1153534/west-ham-david-moyes-injury-news-nayef-aguerd-ankle-rangers/) during the Irons’ pre-season defeat against Rangers, not to mention Issa Diop being [on the verge](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62478215) of joining [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Fulham, it’s no secret that David Moyes needs to bolster his defensive ranks.

Sheth recently claimed that the Hammers held [initial talks](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1556645016516411393) over a potential move with the 25-year-old Kehrer, who has entered the [final year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-paris-saint-germain/vertragsende/verein/583) of his contract with the Ligue 1 giants, and it looks like a switch to the London Stadium could well be on the cards.

### The Latest: West Ham make Kehrer offer

Taking to Twitter, the Sky Sports journalist has now [confirmed](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1556982208933543937?s=21&t=RhgrVRmEz9eVnDo1X1d-Kw) that West Ham have submitted an official proposal in an attempt to secure Kehrer’s services. He wrote:

“West Ham United have made an offer to sign PSG defender Thilo Kehrer.  West Ham are awaiting a response. They have other options they will pursue if they can’t reach an agreement with PSG.”

### The Verdict: Diop replacement

If the Irons do manage to get this deal over the line, it would be a massive coup for Moyes, who you would imagine views Kehrer as a suitable successor to Diop.

The [20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thilo-kehrer/nationalmannschaft/spieler/228948)-cap international, [hailed](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2022/08/09/west-ham-united-thilo-kehrer-paris-saint-germain-transfer/?amp) a ‘complete player’ by Germany manager Hansi Flick, stands at 6 foot 1 so could bring some height to the Hammers’ backline, but last season also recorded a [94.7%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/255167/History/Thilo-Kehrer) pass success rate in Ligue 1, highlighting his most impressive trait – the composure to play out from the back.

Kehrer’s versatility to play at both centre-back and right-back will also be attractive to Moyes, and he would be a welcome addition to the West Ham squad in the middle of a defensive crisis.
