# West Ham: Tomas Soucek’s debut performance impressed these Hammers fans

**Plenty of West Ham fans were full of praise for defensive midfielder Tomas Soucek after he [made his debut for the Hammers](https://www.skysports.com/football/west-ham-vs-brighton/408230) this afternoon.**

Although David Moyes’ side were held to a 3-3 draw at home to Brighton after [twice being two goals in front](https://www.skysports.com/football/west-ham-vs-brighton/408230), the 24-year-old enjoyed a strong debut performance after [joining the club on loan](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/january/29-january/west-ham-united-complete-loan-signing-czech-midfielder-tomas) earlier this week.

The Czech Republic international won five tackles (the joint-most along with Mark Noble) and three aerial duels against the Seagulls, as well as making three interceptions and recording three clearances (as per [SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/west-ham-united-brighton-and-hove-albion/FsM)). He also drew a fine save from Mat Ryan in the early stages after an excellent delivery from Noble (as per [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/west-ham-vs-brighton/408230)).

[Football London](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/fixtures-results/west-ham-player-ratings-brighton-17671630) reporter Rob Guest gave a positive assessment of Soucek’s Hammers debut, saying that he was “all over the park in his time on the pitch and will only get better”. Spencer Rance of [90min.com](https://www.90min.com/posts/6548969-west-ham-3-3-brighton-report-ratings-reaction-as-seagulls-complete-amazing-comeback) gave the midfielder a seven in his player ratings, with only [two of his team-mates being rated higher](https://www.90min.com/posts/6548969-west-ham-3-3-brighton-report-ratings-reaction-as-seagulls-complete-amazing-comeback).

These West Ham fans on Twitter were also more than pleased with Soucek on his first appearance for the club:

> Chuffed to hits. Soucek is what we need. Solid, simple, quick and accurate play out of midfield and he keeps going, gets in good positions and complements our other players! What more can you ask??!!

> Superb debut from Souček so far. Big and strong. Able to get back but more importantly he’s up and around supporting Haller. Hit the ground running and immediately seems to have improved us.

> Soucek will be a success 100%

> Soucek absolutely key to the way we’re playing. I’m not sure he has the game for it, but he’s basically pressuring from the front and getting in the box constantly. Set-piece threat too. You have to say it’s been transformative so far.
