# Everton: Toffees showing Maxwel Cornet ‘interest’

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) are reportedly now showing an ‘interest’ in signing Maxwel Cornet this summer.**

### The Lowdown: Burnley relegated

Unfortunately for Cornet, Burnley found themselves relegated on the final day of the Premier League season with a 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle United, as Leeds United in turn won 2-1 away at Brentford.

The winger scored the Clarets’ goal that game, in what was his [ninth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maxwel-cornet/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/234781/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=1132&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=) in the division, and ended up as their [top scorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-burnley/leistungsdaten/verein/1132).

### The Latest: Everton ‘interest’

Taking to Twitter, reliable journalist [Mike McGrath](https://twitter.com/mcgrathmike/status/1529838959978860546) has revealed that the Goodison Park faithful, as well as West Ham United, are now showing an ‘early interest’ in Cornet.

Expanding in his article for [The Daily Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/05/26/transfer-notebook-west-ham-everton-eye-move-maxwel-cornet-burnley/), McGrath added that the Ivory Coast international has a £17.5m relegation clause.

### The Verdict: Sign

Cornet has already proven himself in the top flight, and in today’s market, £17.5m is not a bad price at all for the 25-year-old.

Toffees podcaster Lee McClean claims that he ‘[instantly improves](https://twitter.com/LeeFMc83/status/1529853372894937088)‘ the team, and that is certainly true in terms of goal output, with [only](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-everton/leistungsdaten/verein/29) Richarlison scoring more over the course of the campaign.

Nonetheless, on [£44,000-per-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/maxwel-cornet/) at Turf Moor, he is unlikely to break their wage structure, and so could be a shrewd buy for the Blues should they be able to get a deal over the line.
