# Newcastle United: Magpies eyeing cut-price Naby Keita move

**[Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/) are reportedly eyeing up a potential cut-price move for Naby Keita.**

### The Lowdown: Out of contract

Keita is [out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/profil/spieler/302215) at Liverpool in the summer, meaning that he can leave as a free agent, or sign for another club for a cut-price in the January transfer window.

The central midfielder has been limited to just [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/302215/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) minutes of football in the Community Shield so far this season, and has been suffering from an ongoing [hamstring injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/302215/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=).

### The Latest: Newcastle interest

As per [Milan Live](https://www.milanlive.it/2022/10/25/milan-un-altro-colpo-dal-liverpool-arriva-a-zero/), the St. James’ Park outfit are eyeing a potential move for Keita, but will face competition from a number of clubs for his signature.

AC Milan, West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be interested in signing him, so there could be a four-way tussle come January or next summer.

### The Verdict: Avoid

Once dubbed ‘[world-class](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/403684-naby-keita-world-class-virgil-van-dijk)‘ by Reds team-mate Virgil van Dijk, and ‘[one of the best](https://twitter.com/ptgorst/status/1481947046059941888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1481947046059941888%7Ctwgr%5E4aaf931b78515b44d91df096ad9c615881f59de6%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.empireofthekop.com%2F2022%2F01%2F14%2Fliverpool-fans-may-be-surprised-by-midfielder-klopp-says-is-one-of-the-best-hes-ever-seen%2F)‘ midfielders that he has ever seen by manager Jurgen Klopp, Keita has been a good servant to the Anfield outfit, winning [both](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/erfolge/spieler/302215) the Premier League and UEFA Champions League with them.

However, his career has been [plagued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/verletzungen/spieler/302215) by injury, and judging by this season, his record does not look like it will get any better.

Currently earning [£120,000-per-week](https://fbref.com/en/squads/822bd0ba/2022-2023/wages/Liverpool-Wage-Details) on Merseyside, it is just not worth the risk for the Magpies, who can already call upon the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in the middle of the park.
