Amadou Diallo – his career so far
At the moment, Amadou Diallo is definitely among the most talented players currently residing in West Ham United’s academy and it has practically been that way ever since the youngster joined the Hammers aged only 10. He was quickly scooped up when he first impressed in the grassroots level, playing and dominating in Sunday league.
And it didn’t really take long for the hierarchy at the club to recognise they’re dealing with an immense talent that could go all the way and one day even become a regular in the first team. Diallo progressed through the ranks quickly and even started tallying incredible achievements along the way.
In fact, he was so highly rated within the Academy of Football that he was just 14 years and six months old when he debuted in the U18 Premier League away from home against Arsenal in August 2017. But he wouldn’t stop there either.
Diallo featured seven times for the U18s while he was still in the U15 by age-group, even starting three times along the way as well. As a U16 schoolboy, he scored his first goals at U18 level in a 3-2 Premier League Cup victory over Manchester City in November 2018.
Later that same season, the now 17-year-old lad received his first call-up to the U23 squad, and of course, he ended up scoring on his Premier League 2 debut against Brighton in December and finishing the campaign strong with another goal and two more appearances under his belt.
As a whole, Diallo has played a total of 23 games for the U18s, scoring four goals and assisting further three while playing 13 games for the U23 team with five goals and two assists.
Even though he’s yet to tally a senior team appearance, the youngster is well on his way to achieving that in the not so distant future and the Hammers can be extremely grateful to have someone of his calibre and potential in their ranks.
Let’s see how far can he actually go.
The biggest piece of West Ham news to come out of the camp surrounding Diallo has been the signing of his first professional contract back in February this year, which was a sign the club trusts him and they believe he could make waves in the world of football sooner rather than later.
At the moment, there are no other transfer rumours or transfer news surrounding the young lad but that doesn’t really come as a big surprise given his age and limited exposure outside of the development squads.
Only time will tell whether or not the Hammers can keep hold of him but penning that first professional deal was the necessary first step.
Diallo mainly operates as a winger but what sets him apart from other talents is how proficient he is with both feet. This means that he can be effective both when cutting inside and keeping the width and stretching the opposition’s line.
That also makes him highly unpredictable and with his great technical abilities on the ball, he suddenly becomes a nightmare for the defenders to face in isolated situations out wide. Both his first touch and control of the ball are already on a pretty high level and that makes him a huge asset in the final third.
While the 17-year-old likes to use his pace and agility to glide past opponents and have a go at goal himself, he can also be a great creator due to his good passing range and crossing accuracy.
