West Ham are going through an rollercoaster transfer saga as they try to finalise a deal for Brentford winger Said Benrahma on deadline day.
News broke via The Mirror’s Darren Lewis on Twitter that the Algerian had failed his medical at London Stadium, which reportedly placed his proposed £25m move to the Hammers in jeopardy.
Many journalists are trying to find out what exactly happened, and The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided an update on the deal.
What Ornstein had to say about Said Benrahma’s proposed move to West Ham
Ornstein has claimed via Twitter that the medical is not technically passed or failed. Apparently, “virtually every player has issues”, so tests done and results are used to help make recruitment decisions.
He also said that all parties remain optimistic the player will sign for West Ham before the 5pm deadline. They view the medical issue revealed as relatively minor and don’t expect it to scupper the move.
West Ham could still sign Said Benrahma
Ornstein’s revelation will hopefully appease Irons fans, some of whom were worried following the update from The Mirror.
Benrahma often proves a menace for opposition defences, as evidenced last season when he averaged 3.8 shots, 2.1 key passes and three successful dribbles per game.
Would Said Benrahma be a good signing for West Ham United?
The winger didn’t just have a terrific campaign when it comes to his attacking stats, but also in terms of goal contributions as he scored 17 times and also supplied nine assists last term, per WhoScored.
If David Moyes can bring the Algerian to London Stadium, it would be a very exciting coup, especially with Felipe Anderson and Grady Diangana both departing in this transfer window. Hopefully Benrahma can excel in the Premier League and show everyone why the Irons are so desperate to sign him.
