Barry Fry insists that West Ham United will sign a new striker this summer as they bid to reinforce David Moyes’ squad.

The Hammers are preparing for a campaign that will involve both the Premier League and the Europa League.

The Irons only have one out-and-out striker at the club, in Michail Antonio, and they are subsequently in need of reinforcements this summer.

West Ham have been linked with a potential deal to sign Tammy Abraham from Chelsea after he fell out of favour under Thomas Tuchel, though he would reportedly cost up to £40m.

Ivan Toney, the former Posh striker who has helped Brentford into the Premier League, is another who has been linked with a potential move to the club.

And Fry insists that, having spoken to senior figures at the club, they are well aware of their need to bring a new forward into the fold this summer.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “Speaking to everybody at West Ham, they all agree that they need a centre-forward to strengthen their squad.

"The centre-forward at the minute has had a hell of a season but he is injury prone and he misses a few and they lack another forward so they will definitely, in my opinion, sign another centre-forward, whether it’s Abraham, whether it’s Ivan Toney, whoever, I think they’ll go for a centre-forward.

“Whether they get him or not I don’t know but they’ll push the boat out to do that. That’s a certainty.”
