According to Calciomercato, West Ham are interested in signing Gerard Moreno from Villarreal this summer.

The Lowdown: West Ham need a striker

The Hammers have enjoyed a fantastic campaign, finishing sixth in the Premier League table to earn a place in the Europa League next term.

However, if they want to compete on several fronts, they will need to bring in another centre-forward - David Moyes currently has only Michail Antonio at his disposal in that position.

The Latest: Hammers eye Moreno

It is now being reported that West Ham want Moreno, who recently won the Europa League with his current club.

Along with the Irons, Newcastle and Roma are said to be in pursuit of the 29-year-old.

The Verdict: Top signing

This past season was the best of Moreno's career. He managed 30 goals in 46 matches in all competitions, while he also provided 11 assists (Transfermarkt). His performances have seen him called up to Spain's squad for the European Championships, where he will be hoping to add to his five goals in 10 caps.

Compared to Karim Benzema in the past (laligalowdown.com), he is already 29 and is therefore not the youngest option. However, he is a player who clearly knows where the back of the net is, as illustrated by his figures during 2020/21. If West Ham could convince him to move to the London Stadium, he could be an inspired signing.

In other news, many West Ham fans were unhappy over this man's snub.
