Journalist Fabrice Hawkins has shared an exciting transfer update involving West Ham United and ex-Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.

The Lowdown: Hammers linked...

The Hammers have been linked with an out-of-window move for Zagadou in recent days with reports suggesting that talks have been held for the free agent's signing.

This is despite manager David Moyes already making eight major signings before the summer window's closure with Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer, Emerson and club record signing Lucas Paqueta all arriving at the London Stadium.

Zagadou is available on a Bosman deal after leaving Dortmund in the summer with Ligue 1 giants Lyon also in the chase for his signature.

The Latest: West Ham in pole...

According to RMC Sport reporter Hawkins, it appears West Ham are in pole position for Zagadou despite Lyon's presence with a move to the Premier League looking more likely.

Making an exciting claim, the journalist also says GSBK have made a contract offer to the centre-half.

He explained:

"Lyon are interested in Dan-Axel Zagadou. Peter Bosz wants to strengthen behind and the defender is free of any contract. Big competition from West Ham which is in pole position. The English offer a 4-year contract to the former Dortmund player."

The Verdict: Big news?

Called 'excellent' and 'strong' with 'a lot of speed' by former Dortmund boss Marco Rose last season, the 23-year-old certainly possesses attributes which could make him suited to the English game.

Zagadou, a 6 foot 5 powerhouse defender, also has many years ahead in his career but one major point of contention will be his torrid injury record.

That being said, West Ham leading the chase for his signature certainly comes as some big out of window news and potentially something for Hammers fans to get excited about over the coming days.
