West Ham: Irons lead transfer chase for Michy Batshuayi - West Ham Transfer Rumours

West Ham are seeking to bolster their attack as they have been linked with a move for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi in the summer transfer window, although they face competition from other Premier League sides, via Daily Express.

According to the Daily Express, the Hammers are currently favourites to beat Newcastle United and Crystal Palace to the Belgian, who is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard has given Batshuayi some gametime this season but has only started him in one Premier League game and, with the Daily Express also reporting that Chelsea are close to signing Timo Werner, it seems like the Belgian could be one of the players sacrificed to free up the space and money for the RB Leipzig man.

He has been shipped out on loan multiple times by the Blues, to Valencia, Borussia Dortmund and most recently Crystal Palace last season, where he scored six goals in 13 appearances. He also boasts a very good goals-per-game record throughout his career, as he has made 328 appearances and scored 126 goals, per Transfermarkt.

Even though he rejected the Hammers to go to the Eagles, via talkSPORT, fans should not use that previous snub to base their opinions on the player, as he could definitely add some much-needed firepower alongside Sebastien Haller up front next season.

It would be interesting to see if David Moyes would partner the two up top together or change the striker depending on the opponent. With Batshuayi’s 2.5 shots per game last season at Palace exceeding Haller’s 1.9 shots per game this season, per WhoScored, and the Belgian having only two fewer goals in 15 fewer appearances, the Blues striker should definitely strengthen the Hammers’ attacking options if he were to move to London Stadium.

The Faily Express reported that there is a £40m valuation on his head but, in this day and age, to pick up a striker who has managed nearly one goal every two games across Europe is hard to find, and the Hammers might be able to bargain a cheaper price for the forward if Chelsea are keen to offload him.
