West Ham United have now made their 'opening offer' to sign Burnley star Maxwell Cornet with the club already replying, according to journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Lowdown: Hammers in talks...

Hammers boss David Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman are seemingly adopting a scattergun approach to this transfer window as West Ham attempt transfer talks for numerous players.

Lille midfielder Amadou Onana and Eintracht Frankfurt defender Filip Kostic are at the centre of their discussions while the likes of Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski have also been linked.

Cornet has managed to grab West Ham's attention as well with Moyes seemingly determined to right the wrongs of last season's transfer doings - or lack thereof - and strengthen in key areas ahead of the Premier League's opening weekend.

The Latest: Taylor shares Cornet bid...

Taylor of The Daily Express, sharing news on social media, claims the Irons have made their 'opening offer' to sign the Clarets star.

However, as per his information, it has been rebuffed as Burnley hold out for closer to £17 million.

He explained (via Twitter):

"West Ham have made an opening offer for Maxwel Cornet which falls short of #BurnleyFC valuation. Clarets still holding out for close to £17m."

The Verdict: Keep knocking...

Cornet would come as a welcome addition for West Ham and we believe the east Londoners should certainly keep knocking.

As per WhoScored, the 25-year-old finished last season as Burnley's top goal scorer and most potent threat - having also racked up the joint-most attempts at goal per 90.

Clearly, the Ivorian stands out as one of Vincent Kompany's key attackers with pundit Noel Whelan also calling Cornet an 'exciting' player.
