Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has backed reports of West Ham United talks for Burnley winger Maxwell Cornet as he shares his own update.

The Lowdown: Hammers making moves...

Following their four confirmed signings already, it is believed that the Irons and manager David Moyes are not resting on their laurels and plan to make even more improvements to the squad.

Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola and Gianluca Scamacca have all come through the door at Rush Green with West Ham linked to bringing both Amadou Onana and Filip Kostic to the Premier League recently.

Cornet has also been attracting attention from the Hammers with some reports even claiming an offer has been made.

The Latest: Sheth backs Cornet reports...

Sharing his own update, Sheth has made a claim involving the Clarets forward.

Indeed, the Sky journalist backs West Ham have indeed held 'talks' to sign Cornet this summer, but says GSB favour a temporary deal.

He explained (via Twitter):

"West Ham United have held initial talks with Burnley over the signing of Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet. West Ham thought to favour a loan. Everton have been in talks about signing him. It is understood Cornet has a £17.5m release clause."

The Verdict: Get it done?

For just £17.5m, Moyes could land a very useful and proven top flight player.

As per WhoScored, Cornet finished 2021/2022 as Burnley's most potent goal threat - attempting their joint-highest rate of shots per 90 and finishing last season as their top goal-scorer.

Able to play wide and through the middle, pundits like Paul Robinson have called him 'invaluable' for this very reason with West Ham clearly seeing that for themselves as they make contact over a potential loan move.
