West Ham United have seemingly been given a boost in the chase for Hungary defender Attila Szalai as journalist Omer Celikbasli makes an exciting claim.

The Lowdown: Hammers eye move...

The Fenerbache star has been a target for manager David Moyes in recent weeks with reports claiming there have been talks to bring him to the Premier League this summer.

Indeed, The Express and journalist Ryan Taylor claimed that negotiations have been held over Szalai's signing amid West Ham's hunt for an emergency centre-back option.

The colossal 6 foot 3 centre-back is indeed on Moyes' radar with Turkish reporter Celikbasli now making an exciting claim.

The Latest: West Ham 'most likely' move for Szalai...

The Super Lig journalist says that West Ham are in pole position to sign Szalai and has even gone on to state that personal terms won't be a problem.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, Celikbasli explained:

"Szalai will most likely move to West Ham. He wants the move and would agree personal terms.”

The Verdict: Get it done...

Called 'amazing' for his 2021/2022 performances in Turkey alongside ex-central defensive partner Kim Min-jae, we believe Szalai would be a welcome option for Moyes.

He would provide solid competition for the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Nayef Aguerd when the trio are available again and the defender's physicality is arguably tailor-made for English football.

The 24-year-old, still fairly young with room to improve, is also valued at a very affordable £10.8 million by Transfermarkt - astute money for a reliable rotational player who could gift West Ham some needed strength in depth.
