West Ham United have made an 'opening proposal' to sign a new target in Flamengo attacker Lazaro, according to reports.

The Lowdown: West Ham keeping busy...

The east Londoners are keeping busy in this summer's transfer window after sealing moves for Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola (loan made permanent), Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet and Thilo Kehrer.

Indeed, it is believed that West Ham also want to sign a new left-back and attacking midfielder, with Club Brugge star Hans Vanaken seen as a real target for the Irons (talkSPORT).

Links also surround Chelsea duo Ruben Lofus-Cheek and Armando Broja (talkSPORT) as head of recruitment Rob Newman aims to tackle the market before September 1.

The Latest: West Ham make 'opening proposal' for Lazaro...

West Ham have now tabled an opening bid of £6m for a new target in Lazaro.

However, as shared by Fabrizio Romano, this offer has been rejected, with talks set to continue over the 20-year-old's signing.

The journalist explained:

"West Ham approaches Flamengo for offensive midfielder Lázaro. £6m bid opening proposal has been rejected.

"Negotiations will continue as many clubs are keen on signing Lázaro."

The Verdict: Go back in?

Lazaro looks to be emerging as quite the talent in South America, standing out with some solid numbers for Flamengo at just 20 years of age.

Across eight starts for the club in 2022, he has bagged four goals and two assists, whilst also grabbing headlines for some particularly influential performances.

While you could argue that he's not ready for first team football in the Premier League, Lazaro certainly looks like one to watch for the future, and West Ham's movement is a sign of the player's real potential.
