Paqueta, who shone in Ligue 1 last season, has now completed a move to West Ham and the Premier League in a real display of ambition from manager David Moyes and the board.

The club record €60m (£51.3m) star has become their eighth major incoming of this summer window, signing a contract until 2027, with reporters now heaping praise on West Ham for what is a fantastic capture.

The Latest: Journalists thrilled by ‘exciting’ Paqueta deal…

Taking to social media, journalists Sam Dean (The Telegraph) and Michael Bridge (Sky Sports) have explained exactly why Paqueta’s arrival signals a ‘huge’ piece of business.

Dean (via Twitter): “Aside from Haaland, I think Lucas Paqueta to West Ham might be the most interesting and exciting transfer of the summer so far. Brazil regular, more than £50m. A move that reflects West Ham’s ambition and the change in their status over the past couple of seasons.”

Bridge (via Twitter): “Lucas Paqueta is a huge signing for #WHUFC
David Moyes told me a few weeks ago the squad still needed ‘a little shake-up’ but they’ve spent big money this summer. He’s often very open when he’s disappointed to miss out on targets so he’ll be delighted this has gone through.”

The Verdict: Massive…

The attacker stood out as a star player at Lyon last season, finishing 21/22 as their second-highest rated player by average match rating (WhoScored).

Only Tete averaged a better number of completed take-ons per 90 with just two of his teammates attempting more shots at goal, leaving little wonder Moyes was keen to get him over the line, injecting some serious attacking impetus into the midfield ranks.

Landing such a big name with just days of the window remaining can surely be considered a masterclass by West Ham.
