West Ham United are now eyeing a move for Southampton defender Jan Bednarek as talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook shares the latest out of Rush Green.

The Lowdown: Moyes wants upgrades?

Irons manager David Moyes could be in the market for a few more upgrades to his squad before September 1, despite already sealing deals for Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet and Thilo Kehrer.

The new Premier League season is underway, with West Ham aiming to potentially qualify for a major European spot, writing the wrongs of last term when they had to settle for a Europa Conference League place.

Six first-team signings is a statement of intent by the east Londoners, who according to reports are now setting their sights on a new target in Bednarek.

The Latest: Crook makes Bednarek claim...

Taking to social media, Crook has claimed that West Ham are in the mix to sign the Southampton centre-back.

The talkSPORT reporter explained"#AVFC not the only club with an eye on Bednarek. Believe #WHUFC also hold an interest along with an overseas side."

The Verdict: Ideal option?

Moyes eyeing another defender after Kehrer is perhaps unsurprising given their issues with availability at the back recently, and a move for the Poland international may be a shrewd one depending on the price.

Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has called Bednarek 'amazing' in recent years, and that tag is arguably still relevant today going by the 26-year-old's numbers last term.

As per WhoScored, he finished 2021/22 among Southampton's top five performers overall, whilst also averaging more interceptions, clearances and blocks made per game than anyone in their squad.

Taking this into account, Bednarek could actually come as a brilliant addition, if West Ham can bring him in.
