West Ham United are one of a number of teams 'weighing up a move' for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, report The Mirror.

The Lowdown: West Ham's summer

The Hammers are expected to be extremely busy over the coming fortnight, with September’s transfer deadline ticking ever closer and their Premier League campaign off to a stuttering start.

GSB have sanctioned and completed moves for five first-team additions – Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Flynn Downes and Alphonse Areola – but the spine of the team still looks light, with a couple of additions in the heart of defence a necessity.

A move for PSG starlet Thilo Kehrer is thought to be close, but it appears Rob Newman is also keen on strengthening the midfield, with news now emerging on a brand new target.

The Latest: GSB eyeing Caicedo move

Indeed, The Mirror claim that Manchester United are leading a pack of teams ‘weighing up a move’ for Seagulls star Caicedo after his breakout campaign last season.

According to their information, the Hammers, Arsenal, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen are the other teams ‘tracking’ the 20 year-old.

The suitors are apparently wowed by the player’s ‘size, power and technical ability’ after he starred in away wins at Arsenal and Tottenham last term.

The Verdict: Incredible signing

Caicedo’s rise on the south coast has indeed been remarkable. Returning from a loan spell in the Belgian top flight in January 2022, he went on to become Brighton’s best performer in the second half of last season, based on Whoscored’s match rating system.

Across eight appearances, all of which he started, the Ecuador international registered two tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game while also completing 0.9 successful take-ons per outing and pitching in with one goal and assist apiece.

A player capable of breaking up play and weaving in and out of tight spaces in the centre of the park, Caicedo has the mobility, technical skills and positional intelligence to strike up an exciting partnership alongside Declan Rice.

After their recent win at Old Trafford, Graham Potter said his rising star was ‘so impressive’ and ‘fantastic’, perhaps no surprise given he dominated the Red Devils with four tackles, three interceptions and three chances created.

It’s easy to see why teammates like Leandro Trossard adore him and his ‘brilliant’ form, and at 20 years old he is only going to get better.
