Speaking to ESPN Brasil, via Sport Witness, the agent of West Ham United star Fabian Balbuena has clarified his situation in east London and has relayed his client’s stance – with the colossus deciding to stay in England amid claims he could return to South America.
Balbuena, who has been a pivotal figure recently alongside Angelo Ogbonna in the absence of Issa Diop, was linked with a potential move back to his homeland at the end of this season upon his contract expiry – but the player’s agent has now come out to rebuff those exit claims.
Should West Ham offer Balbuena a new deal?
Definitely, needs to happen
No, sell him in January, not getting any younger
Balbuena set to stay at West Ham
The defender has apparently decided to stay in England and wants to continue at West Ham, with there being no rush for a renewal as Balbuena’s stance on leaving is made clear.
Indeed, as per his representative, the 29-year-old wants to remain at the London Stadium with there being ‘no concern’ over an extension on his current deal – potentially music to the ears of Hammers supporters following his solid run in David Moyes’ side.
“He is one of the captains of the team, he’s starting and wants to continue. I received many calls from journalists asking about Flamengo, but there’s no possibility of him returning to South America,” agent Augusto Paraja told ESPN.
“He wants to continue in England, there’s no concern because of that.”

Balbuena impressed against during West Ham’s nervy 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Monday night, with the Paraguayan forming a rock solid partnership alongside Ogbonna to keep the Villans at bay.
He has been a major presence in their climb to fifth in the Premier League, and after his agent’s update, Irons could be relieved their ‘outstanding‘ defender wishes to remain.
