Flocking to Twitter, many West Ham United fans have erupted over news involving Sampdoria midfielder Morten Thorsby.

The Irons are still yet to make a new senior signing this summer, with the transfer window closing at the end of next month on August 31.

Indeed, West Ham have until 11pm on that date to bring in as many fresh faces as possible and boost David Moyes' chances of guiding them through a successful campaign.

The Hammers are set to compete in the Europa League group stage after a head-turning 2020/21 season and West Ham will need plenty of strength in depth due to the added fixture load.

An update has now emerged which has some fans talking on social media. As per claims by Tuttomercatoweb and Sky Sport Italia, via Football Italia, West Ham had considered themselves favourites to sign Sampdoria ace Thorsby this summer.

However, Watford then swooped in with an improved bid, which has now got the Genoa club waiting on both the Hornets and West Ham to push up his price tag.

The 25-year-old Norway international won't be allowed to leave Serie A for under €6m (£5.1m) and is now at the centre of a bidding war between the two clubs.

Flocking to this update, which one fan called 'embarrassing', it's safe to say that plenty of West Ham supporters are getting frustrated with the haggling and lack of business done, some taking their frustration out on the club's owners.

Here is a flavour of the fans' verdicts, in response to West Ham News & Views.

West Ham fans erupt over Thorsby news

"I despise our owners on a different level. Literally only like £5m and we won’t even pay that. This is why we’re never gonna compete at the highest, no squad depth at all"

"6m for a back up CM and we will probably bottle it. I’m sick of this club being incompetent, every time we have the chance to move to the next level we go backwards."
