West Ham United announced the temporary departure of winger Felipe Anderson on Tuesday and a lot of the Irons fan base have been reacting to this transfer update.
The club tweeted: ‘We can confirm that Felipe Anderson has joined Portuguese side FC Porto on a season-long loan. The Club wishes Felipe all the best for his loan spell.’
It looked like the East London side had picked up a very decent winger from Lazio when he signed for £34.20 million in 2018, per Transfermarkt. He scored nine goals, provided four assists, and managed on average 1.6 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.1 successful dribbles per game in the Premier league, via WhoScored.
Is allowing Felipe Anderson to leave West Ham on loan a good decision?
However last season he only scored one goal and picked up four assists, per WhoScored. Even though he managed more dribbles, his shots and key passes per game dropped. Before he moved to Porto, the 27 year-old Brazilian only managed two minutes of Premier League football in the 2020/21 campaign, highlighting the fact that he was surplus to requirements.
His good form in his first season and subsequent poor form has left many West Ham fans with mixed reactions to his departure. Hopefully the loan move will give him some much-needed confidence and he can return to the Hammers looking more like the player who arrived in his first campaign.
Here is what fans said following the news, as one supporter called this a ‘laughable’ decision:
We can confirm that Felipe Anderson has joined Portuguese side FC Porto on a season-long loan.
The Club wishes Felipe all the best for his loan spell.

Thank you Felipe, top class in that first season, such a shame it’s never worked out since. Good luck with the move @F_Andersoon

The club said Diangana was sold as we had options like Anderson. We don’t spend the Diangana money and then send the ‘options’ out on loan. Laughable.

Lightweight , Wasteful, Ineffective, loads of potential lack of end product , bye enough said

I think another good call. He has been well below par for over a year and needs a fresh start. Who knows, may find some form and come back next season firing again.
Let’s hope the hungry EFL signings we (hopefully) make prove this to be a good window.

As a United States-based West Ham fan, this is upsetting because when he has the ball, he kills it. However, the last/current system does not work for him and I am hoping his loan allows him to grow. Please don’t bash cause I like him.
