Many West Ham United fans have been slamming a piece of transfer news on Nikola Milenkovic as the Daily Mail have reported that Fiorentina rebuffed the East London club’s £22 million bid, but said that the Serie A side were willing to negotiate.
However, according to the outlet, it is understood that the demands of the player and his representatives were considered too high for the Hammers to proceed with the deal.
Indeed, capturing the 22-year old before the summer window shuts would arguably be a good bit of business as he may improve on the current options at the heart of David Moyes’ defence.
Milenkovic won four duels per game while playing in the Serie A in the 2019/20 term, and also averaged 3.3 clearances and 1.2 tackles per match, being a key piece in helping his team keep 11 clean sheets in Italy’s top flight, as per Sofascore.
The Serbian international has also been compared to former Manchester United ace and fellow countryman Nermanja Vidic, who made a big impression in English football, winning the Premier League title no fewer than five times and also picking up a UEFA Champions League trophy under Sir Alex Ferguson (via Transfermarkt).
Does Milenkovic start for West Ham?
Nonetheless, it looks as if there is a strong chance that the central defender will not sign for the Irons before the market officially closes, prompting these WHUFC supporters to slam the news on Twitter:
We’ve cleared so many big wages over the years. Absolute joke if true

The fact they were willing to negotiate meant Sullivan had to find another excuse to not go ahead with the deal, hence the players’ demands being too high. You just know that if Fiorentina flatly refused the offer, then we’d be told the player wanted to come.

Shock up and coming 22 year old player, best prospect and best of the bench! But of course too expensive, let’s go for the 29 year old instead with 2 years left of his career!

Absolute joke considering the players we have got off the wage will. You have to pay the going rate for a young CB with big potential. #GSBOUT
