According to reports from Italy, West Ham United are in pole position to land the signing of centre-forward, Odsonne Edouard, this summer.

The report by ASRomaLive (via Sport Witness) claims that both Roma and West Ham are interested in a move for the Celtic star in the upcoming transfer window, but the Serie A side fear that they will not be able to compete with the Hammers in a bid for the striker.

According to the report, West Ham are in "pole position" to land the 23-year-old, largely down to Celtic's €20 million (£17.3 million) asking price, an amount that the Hammers are more than willing to pay - with David Moyes' side reported to already be in contact with the player's representatives regarding a move.

Transfer Tavern Take

With Michail Antonio currently being sidelined due to injury, at present, West Ham have no fit senior centre-forwards in their first-team squad, making it a highly likely probability that Moyes will be looking to add depth to the position this summer.

And, considering the fact that Edouard has scored a quite remarkable 81 goals, as well as registering 37 assists, over his 164 appearances for Celtic - including 20 goals over 36 appearances this season - the striker Neil Lennon dubbed as "magnificent" would certainly appear to be a decent candidate to add more firepower to the West Ham attack, especially for the asking price reported.

With clubs in other leagues perhaps hit harder by the financial implications of the pandemic, judging by this update on Roma's interest, it seems the Irons could have all the negotiating power required to seal a brilliant move, particularly if they earn European football for next season.
