Speaking to Sky Sports news, transfer insider Kaveh Solhekol dropped the latest news amid reports that West Ham want to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele – with the journalist pouring cold water on this ‘hugely ambitious‘ plan and claiming these reports are, in fact, ‘not accurate‘.
Dembele, who is reportedly edging close to an Atletico Madrid move, has been at the centre of intense interest from the Hammers and GSB according to recent claims – with RMC Sport saying that West Ham want to sign him as a replacement for Sebastien Haller.
Who should West Ham target instead of Dembele?

However, putting these rumours to rest in a transfer update, Solhekol said ‘we’ve been told‘ that these reports are false and that West Ham are actually ‘not interested‘ in signing him as he nears a switch to La Liga.
The Frenchman has been on the fringes of Lyon’s first team this season, starting just six Ligue 1 matches, coming after he impressed during his first two seasons.
Indeed, he bagged 31 league goals in total over both the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 campaigns (WhoScored), with Fabrizio Romano sharing news that he is now in fact on his way to Atletico Madrid.
Transfer Tavern take
Solhekol’s update comes as potentially disappointing to supporters given Dembele would have been a ‘hugely ambitious‘ swoop, arguably what West Ham need if they wish to replace a club record signing.
The transfer insider, however, did relay who the Irons could sign – with Olivier Giroud and Joshua King standing out as candidates for a move this month, as he explained on Sky.
Only time will tell who GSB manage to land, but judging by these recent reports, it certainly won’t be Dembele.
