# West Ham United may now look to sell Arthur Masuaku

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) may now look to sell Arthur Masuaku in the January transfer window, according to insiders Claret & Hugh.**

### The Lowdown: Masuaku at Besiktas

At the beginning of August, West Ham [agreed](https://www.whufc.com/news/arthur-masuaku-joins-besiktas-loan) to loan Masuaku to Besiktas until the end of the season, with a view to making the transfer permanent, should the Turkish side wish to.

The left-back started well in the Super Lig, featuring in [every](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arthur-masuaku/leistungsdaten/spieler/181380) game prior to what is believed to be a knee injury, as per [ExWHUemployee](https://www.patreon.com/posts/masuaku-knee-74356753?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_fan), who also states that this issue could keep him out for three months, casting doubt on whether he will depart the London Stadium.

### The Latest: Claret & Hugh’s update

Despite the 29-year-old’s fitness concerns, there is still a ‘big hope’ that the club can cash in on him in January and complete a permanent transfer ‘early’, which could provide the club with a cash injection of £13m, as per [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/hammers-looking-for-offers/).

Cash is said to be short at the London Stadium at present, with funds needing to be raised amid a [£156m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) summer spending spree, which has so far not proven to be successful, with the Hammers [16th](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) table.

### The Verdict: Right decision?

Given the fact that the Hammers only spent [£6m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/10527846/west-ham-sign-arthur-masuaku-from-olympiakos) on the DR Congo international in 2016, if they are able to more than double their money on a player deemed surplus to requirements by David Moyes, it will be a very good piece of business.

Despite once being lauded as ‘[excellent](https://twitter.com/Sam_InkersoleTM/status/1319993498884579331?s=20&t=Ujme1-v1RS0YipHABPJcfQ)‘ by journalist Sam Inkersole, the defender simply isn’t up to the standard required at West Ham anymore, especially considering Aaron Cresswell is rated as the club’s third-best performer so far this season, with an average SofaScore rating of [7.07](https://www.sofascore.com/team/football/west-ham-united/37).

With esteemed [28](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emerson/nationalmannschaft/spieler/181778)-time Italy international Emerson providing a reliable option as a back-up to the Englishman, there is no room for Masuaku at the club, so Moyes will be hoping that he can perform well enough at Besiktas in the coming weeks to secure a move to Istanbul.
