# West Ham United: BBC Radio pundit drops Hammers FA Cup claim

**BBC Radio’s Noel Whelan has claimed that David Moyes will not make any significant changes to his West Ham side for the FA Cup clash against Southampton.**

### The Lowdown: West Ham’s FA Cup run

The Hammers are set to travel to St Mary’s Stadium for their fifth-round FA Cup tie against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints side tomorrow night.

In the last round, Moyes’ men drew non-league side Kidderminster Harriers. Surprisingly, [West Ham trailed](https://www.skysports.com/football/kidderminster-harriers-vs-west-ham-united/report/462170) for 70 minutes of the game due to an early goal from the home side. Substitute Declan Rice saved the day, netting a last-ditch equaliser in the 91st minute, before Jarrod Bowen sealed the victory in the last minute of extra-time.

### The Latest: Whelan makes Hammers claim

Whelan, who regularly features on [BBC Radio Leeds](https://icdb.tv/stats/4247/Noel-Whelan), made the claim that West Ham have a real opportunity of securing silverware this season, calling Wednesday’s clash ‘massive’.

Speaking with [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-news-pundit-issues-verdict-on-senior-stars-being-omitted-for-southampton-clash/) about the FA Cup, he proclaimed:

*“He’s not done it yet domestically \[rotate the squad\], and the one thing about David Moyes is that he’s honest. He might change a couple. I’m very sure he’ll put out a very strong side capable of advancing in this competition.*

*“When was the last time West Ham brought back some silverware? This could be a massive opportunity for them, and Moyes won’t want to waste any game.*

*“He’s always shown great integrity in the game and put out the strongest side he could. I don’t think this game will be any different.*

*“He won’t want any slip-ups, and let’s not forget – winning breeds winning.”*

### The Verdict: FA Cup victory on the cards?

West Ham have experienced a fantastic season to-date, given the fact they remain in the Europa League and sit just outside the top-four in the English top-flight.

However, the Hammers’ hopes of Champions League qualification may be falling through their fingers. [Sixth-place Arsenal](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) are now level on points with the Irons. Worryingly, they have three games in hand.

In Europe, West Ham have been drawn to face [Sevilla](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/draws/) in the round of 16 of the Europa League, who are the [competition’s record winners](https://www.worldfootball.net/winner/europa-league/) – having been victorious on six occasions.

Therefore, if Moyes wants to consider this season a complete success, West Ham’s best chance of doing so could be in the FA Cup.
