# West Ham United: Chelsea going to make a fresh bid for Declan Rice in January

**Declan Rice has a special place in the hearts of many West Ham fans as he is a [product of their academy.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/profil/spieler/357662) There had been some talk about him [receiving a new contract](https://www.de24.news/2020/10/west-ham-united-fans-are-reacting-to-a-possible-contract-extension-for-declan-rice.html) but now, it looks like [Chelsea](https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/24/declan-rice-pushing-to-sign-for-chelsea-before-transfer-window-closes-13322056/) will make another move to sign him in January.**

According to the [Athletic](https://twitter.com/TheAthletic?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1323217525774159875%7Ctwgr%5Eshare_3&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.footballtransfertavern.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D333206action%3Dedit), and tweeted out by [@whufc\_news](https://twitter.com/whufc_news/status/1323217525774159875?s=20), Chelsea are reportedly preparing a fresh bid for Rice and will try to prise the midfielder from West Ham in the January window.

The defensive midfielder is a key asset for the club and is a player the fans would almost certainly want to keep around.

He averaged 3.1 tackles and two interceptions a game last season ([WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/332325/Show/Declan-Rice), as well as picking up one goal and three assists, so keeping hold of such a consistent performer would certainly be a huge boost.

The [£49.50 million-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/profil/spieler/357662) ace is a key player in David Moyes’ side, [playing every minute of their season so far](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/leistungsdaten/verein/379); and there is ample time for the [England international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/profil/spieler/357662) to get even better as his career develops.

Given the replies to the original tweet, it seems like many Hammers fans, like those below, aren’t taking much notice about the report.
