# West Ham United: Club interested in Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson

**West Ham are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window and are interested in signing French midfielder Morgan Sanson, according to *Le 10 Sport* via [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-hopeful-of-morgan-sanson-deal).**

Sanson currently plays for Ligue 1 side Marseille and has played 27 times for the club, scoring five times and contributing to five assists, via [Transfermarkt.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/morgan-sanson/leistungsdaten/spieler/174094) Indeed, he has only played professional football in France, as previously he was at Montpellier and Le Mans, so any move would certainly be a fairly big change.

The Irons have previously done business with Marseille when they bought Dimitri Payet and then sold him back to the French side. Furthermore, they also feel like they could easily do business with the side, as former Chief Executive Paul Aldridge is now at the Ligue 1 club.

Reports from L’Equipe (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-offer-rejected-midfielder-club-looking-money-hammers/)) claimed that the Hammers tried to sign Sanson in the January transfer window, but they had a £30 million bid rejected.

So far this season, Sanson is actually averaging more shots per game (1.4, via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/115508/Show/Morgan-Sanson)) than anyone outside of Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Sebastian Haller and his 1.1 key pass average over the same period is bettered only by Manuel Lanzini and Robert Snodgrass.

While Sanson’s stats are somewhat impressive compared to their current crop, the team have conceded 50 goals this season already, so perhaps focusing funds on that area of the pitch could be a better idea, given current their array of attacking midfielders.

Indeed, Mark Lawrenson noted (via the [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51490131)) how their defence looked ‘woeful’ under Moyes in the dramatic draw with Brighton in February, so it does appear to be a problem.

***West Ham fans, are you happy to be linked with Sanson, comment below!***
