# West Ham: David Moyes eyes reunion with scout Mick Doherty

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) manager David Moyes is eyeing a reunion with scout Mick Doherty, according to Glasgow World (via Claret & Hugh).**

### **The Lowdown: Recent career**

The scout most recently spent [five years at Celtic](https://www.glasgowworld.com/sport/football/turkish-giants-line-up-loan-move-for-rangers-defender-and-former-celtic-scout-targets-david-moyes-reunion-3873650), working briefly with Brendan Rodgers, but more closely with Neil Lennon and current boss Ange Postecoglou.

Having helped the Hoops revamp their scouting department, Doherty left Parkhead this summer after a successful stint at the club.

However, it now appears he may not be out of the game long, with the Hammers boss keen on bringing him to the London Stadium.

### **The Latest: Moyes’ reunion**

According to a report by [Glasgow World](https://www.glasgowworld.com/sport/football/turkish-giants-line-up-loan-move-for-rangers-defender-and-former-celtic-scout-targets-david-moyes-reunion-3873650), as relayed by [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/moyes-eyes-big-reunion/), Moyes is still rebuilding his team of staff behind the scenes.

As such, the Scotsman now wants Doherty to join him at Rush Green in a senior scouting role.

The two previously worked together at [Everton and Sunderland](https://www.glasgowworld.com/sport/football/turkish-giants-line-up-loan-move-for-rangers-defender-and-former-celtic-scout-targets-david-moyes-reunion-3873650) to great effect, with Doherty credited for having spotted England international Jordan Pickford and midfielder Ross Barkley.

[Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/moyes-eyes-big-reunion/) report the former Celtic man could be heading to the east London club in the coming weeks.

### **The Verdict: Need academy talent**

Whilst captain Declan Rice is the prime example of a successful academy product, there aren’t too many other players involved in Moyes’ first-team who graduated from the side’s youth teams.

Alongside the skipper, Ben Johnson was the only other academy graduate to [feature in the Irons’ squad](https://www.skysports.com/football/west-ham-united-vs-fulham/teams/464734) for their 3-1 win over Fulham at the weekend.

Having been recognised as one of the most successful youth setups in English football, hence its nickname the [Academy of Football](https://www.whufc.com/club/history/club-history/1960s), West Ham have not been producing the level of young talent at that the rate they have done before.

Therefore, Doherty’s appointment at Rush Green could be a great sign of getting the club back on track, with youngsters hoping to fight for a place in Moyes’ starting XI.
