# West Ham United: Fans blast Rio Ferdinand comments

**Many West Ham United fans have been angered on Twitter, after former player Rio Ferdinand claimed that Declan Rice would be a “perfect” option for Manchester United this summer \[[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-transfer-saul-rice-24774092)\].**

Of course, Ferdinand himself has been heavily discussed within Hammers’ circles in recent weeks, owing to his involvement in the PAI Capital bid to takeover the club from the current ownership \[[Hammers News](https://www.hammers.news/news/rio-ferdinand-risks-the-wrath-of-west-ham-fans-again-despite-takeover-involvement-but-this-time-he-chooses-his-words-more-carefully/)\].

Now, he has touted fan favourite Rice as a potential signing for the Red Devils this summer on his YouTube channel FIVE, incurring the wrath of West Ham supporters \[[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-transfer-saul-rice-24774092)\].

Enjoying a stellar campaign in 2020/21, the England international in question was pivotal to the Irons’ European qualification, registering three goal contributions in 35 appearances; two goals and one assist \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdaten/spieler/357662/plus/0?saison=2020)\].

In light of these comments, no wonder loads of furious West Ham fans took to social media to share their opinions on latest developments.

Replying to multiple different outlets on Twitter, here is what some fans had to say about the news:

**“I’ve got no issue with Rio liking Man United. He had a wonderful career there & naturally feels affinity. However, if he is putting his name to a takeover bid (no matter the capacity) urging Man Utd to sign our best player then it is a conflict and a little outrageous.”**
