# West Ham United: Fans fume at disappointing Caleta-Car news

**Flocking to Twitter, a number of West Ham fans have been left fuming with the news that West Ham are unlikely to make a move for Duje Caleta-Car before tonight’s transfer deadline.**

According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/transfer-news-live-updates-manchester-united-arsenal-liverpool-chelsea-tottenham-latest-on-deadline-day/jvKSHZ7wTuKO/), the Hammers are unlikely to pursue a move for Marseille centre-back Caleta-Car before shutting up shop on Monday, following numerous negotiations held between the two clubs.

The stalemate has arisen due to differing structures of the deal. [West Ham](https://twitter.com/JacobSteinberg/status/1487815938699321349) are looking for a loan deal with an option to buy, whereas [Marseille](https://twitter.com/JacobSteinberg/status/1487815938699321349) are holding out for a permanent sale.

The Hammers have even had a [bid rejected](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10450065/West-Ham-fail-bid-sign-Marseille-defender-Duje-Caleta-Car-loan-option-buy.html) for the player, which involved a loan with a permanent option, as the French side will only sanction a permanent deal in the region of £15 million.

David Moyes’ pursuit of a central defender began with the season-ending injury sustained by [Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/verletzungen/spieler/48002), and this need was further exacerbated by [Kurt Zouma](https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/transfer-news-live-updates-manchester-united-arsenal-liverpool-chelsea-tottenham-latest-on-deadline-day/jvKSHZ7wTuKO/)’s hamstring injury, which he has since recovered from.
