# West Ham United: Frank McAvennie tips the Hammers to sign Lyon star Moussa Dembele

**Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/something-has-happened-a-fallout-exclusive-pundit-on-west-ham-transfer-report/), West Ham United club legend Frank McAvennie has urged the club to sign Lyon star Moussa Dembele – coming days after journalist Sam Inkersole dropped a potentially worrying update on Michail Antonio.**

Dembele, who bagged a stellar [24 goals in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/profil/spieler/229004) last season, described as a [‘monster’](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/monster-moussa-dembele-can-go-as-high-as-he-wants-john-hartson-gq2tgkqj9) in front of goal, has attracted interest from the club as per recent reports in the media.

### The Dembele and Antonio conundrum

[The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13135524/west-ham-transfer-dembele-lyon-man-utd/) claimed that GSB are eyeing a swoop for the Frenchman as a potential star striking option, with Sebastien Haller currently out-of-form and Michail Antonio often suffering from fitness issues.

Antonio could be back for the club’s trip to Sheffield United after this international break, but [football.london journalist Inkersole](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/antonios-fitness-benrahma-decision-david-19253484) claimed that David Moyes will still have to be selective regardless.

Indeed, as per [his update](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/antonios-fitness-benrahma-decision-david-19253484), Antonio’s history of hamstring problems means that he cannot just be thrust back into action – as the Hammers boss has done with Antonio before, which resulted in more time on the sidelines.

### McAvennie urges West Ham to move

Life without the Englishman regularly starting is certainly a daunting prospect for supporters given his importance on the pitch, with McAvennie tipping the club to bring in a ‘fantastic’ signing who can provide much-needed fire power.

“He must have had a fallout at Lyon because ability-wise you would put him in the team. Something has happened there because he was doing very, very well,” he told Football Insider.

“If West Ham could get him I would take him. He is a fantastic striker who puts himself about and is always willing to take the ball. He knows where the goal is, that is for sure.”

### Transfer Tavern take

Dembele is a proven finisher in front of goal, as displayed by his [time for Celtic](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/monster-moussa-dembele-can-go-as-high-as-he-wants-john-hartson-gq2tgkqj9) in the SPFL, and if West Ham could land him, it would indeed be an amazing coup for Moyes.
