# West Ham: Irons could make late move for Gaetan Laborde

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) could make a late move for Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.**

### **The Lowdown: Previous interest**

This time last year, [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transferts-rennes-dans-la-course-pour-gaetan-laborde-montpellier/1281104) reported that the Hammers were keen to bring the Frenchman to the London Stadium from Montpellier.

However, the move failed to come to fruition, leaving the 28-year-old to join Ligue 1 side Rennes in a [deal worth £15m.](https://www.transfermarketweb.com/ligue-1/official-rennes-sign-in-gaetan-laborde-from-montpellier-219887)

Despite this, it appears West Ham’s interest in Laborde isn’t over, with a recent report touting the east London club with a late swoop before next Thursday’s deadline.

### **The Latest: Late move**

According to a report by [TuttoMercatoWeb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/calcio-estero/tmw-il-rennes-attivo-anche-sul-fronte-cessioni-laborde-nel-mirino-del-siviglia-1720481), as relayed by [Hammers.News](https://www.hammers.news/transfer-news/report-west-ham-could-make-a-late-move-to-sign-breathtaking-gaetan-laborde/), West Ham could make a late move to sign Laborde this summer.

Newcastle are also said to be interested in signing the Frenchman, so negotiations could turn out to be difficult for David Moyes’ side.

This follows a report from January which claimed the Ligue 1 outfit were willing to sell the 28-year-old for a [£30m fee](https://www.hommedumatch.fr/articles/exclus-hdm/stade-rennais-srfc-newcastle-et-wolverhampton-sinteressent-de-pres-a-gaetan-laborde_2626427), after just six months at the club.

### **The Verdict: Good signing**

With the Hammers currently going through a goal drought, having [failed to score](https://www.skysports.com/west-ham-united-results) in their opening three [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) games, the need for new attacking impetus at the London Stadium is clear.

In 38 league appearances last season, the forward netted [15 goals and produced eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetan-laborde/leistungsdaten/spieler/181378/plus/0?saison=2021) – beating Jarrod Bowen, the Irons’ [top scorer last season](https://www.espn.com/soccer/team/stats/_/id/371/league/ENG.1/season/2021), who totalled 12 goals in the English top-flight.

For his efforts, journalist Clement Carpentier dubbed Laborde a [“goal machine”](https://twitter.com/clementcarpet/status/1465944444188958726) – something Moyes could really utilise with his side sat bottom of the [Premier League table.](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table)
