# West Ham: Irons in talks to sign Gianluca Scamacca

**Sky Sports [reporter](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth) Dharmesh Sheth has confirmed that [West Ham](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) are in talks to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca this summer.**

### The Lowdown: Premier League interest

David Moyes will be looking to bolster his attacking ranks after another season relying so heavily on the fitness of Michail Antonio, and the 23-year-old is the latest name to be on the Irons’ radar.

[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3357000/2022/06/10/arsenal-transfers-jesus-tielemans-gnabry-scamacca/) first credited the Hammers with an interest in the forward last month, but they were set to face competition from [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United for his signature.

The report claims that the Italian is open to an exit despite having [four](https://www.transfermarkt.com/us-sassuolo/berateruebersicht/verein/6574) years remaining on his contract, and a move to the London Stadium might just be on the horizon.

### The Latest: West Ham in talks for Scamacca

Taking to Twitter, Sheth [revealed](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1546917753495453696?s=21&t=5lcu-Z2BejLCTMsvxQRLCg) that West Ham have opened negotiations with Scamacca over a potential move in the coming weeks. He wrote:

“West Ham United in talks with Sassuolo over the signing of Gianluca Scamacca. No official bid – talks centre on fee & structure. PSG also interested but unwilling – as it stands – to meet asking price. Valuation thought to be €50m.”

### The Verdict: Holding the advantage

PSG are a very strong competitor to try and fend off, but the fact that they aren’t yet willing to meet Sassuolo’s asking price gives the Irons a huge advantage.

The [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gianluca-scamacca/nationalmannschaft/spieler/315867)-cap international, who [Sky Sports pundit](https://icdb.tv/stats/1212/Kevin-Campbell) Kevin Campbell once [said](https://www.footballinsider247.com/gianluca-scamacca-could-cause-a-lot-of-problems-at-arsenal-after-what-expert-has-just-seen/?amp) can cause ‘a lot of problems’, netted 16 times in 36 Serie A outings last season, as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gianluca-scamacca/leistungsdaten/spieler/315867/plus/0?saison=2021), highlighting how prolific he can be in the final third.

With Antonio being the only natural goalscorer in the building, Scamacca would be a fantastic addition for Moyes, whose door has seemingly now been opened to make the first move.
