# West Ham United: Hammers readying ‘big cheque’ for William Saliba

**As per French news outlet [Jeunesfooteux,](https://www.jeunesfooteux.com/OM-Arsenal-Mercato-West-Ham-pret-a-signer-un-gros-cheque-pour-Saliba_a51860.html) West Ham United are now weighing yet another marquee offer as news emerges on Arsenal defender and Marseille loanee William Saliba.**

### The Lowdown: Hammers lodge big bids…

Over the last week of the January transfer window, the Irons and manager David Moyes got busy with record-breaking bids for some notable stars from both the Premier League and abroad.

Big offers were made for Leeds United duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, according to [reports](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/jan/29/west-ham-leeds-reject-raphinha-bid), with Irons recruitment chief Rob Newman also lodging a £60 million deadline day transfer offer for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez ([The Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-fail-in-club-record-ps60m-deadline-day-transfer-move-for-benfica-striker-darwin-nunez-b979730.html)).

In an out-of-window development, it appears Moyes and West Ham have already set their sights on another ahead of next summer.

### The Latest: West Ham ready ‘big cheque’ for Saliba…

[Jeunesfooteux](https://www.jeunesfooteux.com/OM-Arsenal-Mercato-West-Ham-pret-a-signer-un-gros-cheque-pour-Saliba_a51860.html) say that West Ham are ‘ready to sign a big cheque’ for Gunners sensation Saliba, who is currently a mainstay out on loan at Marsielle.

It is believed that Moyes and Newman have even made the 20-year-old a ‘priority’ for the summer and are willing to put €30 million (£25m) on the table.

Following this development, Marseille may now find it ‘difficult’ to keep him.

### The Verdict: Get it done…

West Ham’s failure to land Moyes another central defensive option are well documented, most notably in their attempt to sign another Marseille ace in [Duje Caleta-Car.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10450065/West-Ham-fail-bid-sign-Marseille-defender-Duje-Caleta-Car-loan-option-buy.html)

However, a player of Saliba’s young age and quality could well be worth the wait.

His teammate, Mattéo Guendouzi, certainly rates the Frenchman – recently calling him ‘extraordinary’ and a ‘very important player’ for the Ligue 1 giants ([www.ligue1.com](https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/NEWS/2021/11/07/saliba-earns-praise-from-guendouzi)).

According to [WhoScored,](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/361822/Show/William-Saliba) Saliba also averages a very impressive [93.6% pass accuracy](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/361822/Show/William-Saliba) out from the back – more than [any West Ham man](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/29/Show/England-West-Ham) with over one league start.

This highlights his composure and technical quality at such a young age, potentially giving Moyes and the club a big decision to make this summer over whether to go all in for the centre-back.
