# West Ham United: Hammers in talks for Nayef Aguerd with GSB told to pay eight-figure fee

**According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-major-update-on-west-ham-talks-to-sign-aguerd/), talks between West Ham and Rennes are ongoing regarding defender Nayef Aguerd – with the Ligue 1 side now telling GSB and co just how much he could cost.**

### The Lowdown: West Ham in defender hunt…

Bolstering the centre-half position is said to be a main [priority for manager David Moyes](https://www.claretandhugh.info/candh-exclusive-moyes-wants-three-positions-filled/) this summer, something which could be made even more important by Fabian Balbuena’s departure from the club.

West Ham enter the Europa League group stages next season in what will be a more demanding campaign overall and the Hammers arguably need to start making moves.

### The Latest: West Ham talks ongoing…

In what could be a positive update, [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-major-update-on-west-ham-talks-to-sign-aguerd/) claim that West Ham talks are ongoing as they look to sign 6 foot 2 defender Aguerd from Rennes this summer.

An Irons source has explained to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-major-update-on-west-ham-talks-to-sign-aguerd/) that David Sullivan is personally spearheading the club’s pursuit for Aguerd after he was identified as a top target.

West Ham are prepared to invest significantly in signing a new centre-back this summer and GSB have now been told it will cost up to £16 million to sign the Moroccan.

### The Verdict: Bargain?

Aguerd is a name that has only recently emerged as West Ham target new defenders.

The centre-half was a mainstay for Rennes over 2020/2021 and one of their key players, starting 35 matches whilst averaging an impressive 90.4% pass accuracy out from the back ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362434/Show/Nayef-Aguerd)).

A colossal presence, he also made the second-most clearances per game (2.9) out of their entire squad whilst racking up more blocks in that time than any Rennes player with over 10 appearances ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/313/Show/France-Rennes)).

At £16m, the 25-year-old could be an answer to West Ham’s defensive conundrum.
