# West Ham United: Hammers now ‘very close’ to signing Matheus Pereira

**Writing on [Twitter,](https://twitter.com/Ekremkonur/status/1421834231085420545) journalist Ekrem Konur has shared yet another West Ham United transfer update – this time involving West Bromwich Albion ace Matheus Pereira.**

### The Lowdown: West Ham in Pereira hunt…

Since news emerged that a move for Manchester United man Jesse Lingard is[unlikely to happen](https://theathletic.co.uk/2706349/2021/07/15/west-ham-transfers-moyes-closing-in-on-areola-but-lingard-unlikely-at-30m-valuation/?redirected=1) this summer, West Ham have set their sights on alternative attacking midfield target Pereira.

[ExWHUemployee](https://twitter.com/exwhuemployee/status/1418102033375272961?s=21) recently confirmed that West Ham have now made an enquiry for the player with [talks ongoing](https://www.westhamzone.com/news/west-ham-preparing-15m-offer-for-matheus-pereira/), coming as manager David Moyes looks to bolster his attacker options.

While the signing of a new centre-half is first priority as it stands ([ExWHUemployee](https://www.patreon.com/posts/centre-back-54335426)), Konur has shared some news on West Ham’s bid to sign Pereira.

### The Latest: Pereira ‘very close’ to West Ham…

Taking to social media, the Turkish transfer journalist has dropped a big claim.

[West Ham latest developments…](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-developments/)

He believes that the Brazilian is now ‘very close’ to securing a summer move to east London in what could be a big boost for Moyes as he prepares for a gruelling 21/22 campaign.

“As of now, Matheus Pereira is very close to West Ham.” Konur said (via [Twitter](https://twitter.com/Ekremkonur/status/1421834231085420545)).

The 25-year-old shone for West Brom in the Premier League last year, scoring 11 goals and assisting six others in 30 starts ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/297389/Show/Matheus-Pereira)).

### The Verdict: Big boost for Hammers…

Pereira closing in on a move to West Ham, this news will do wonders to appease supporters who are desperate to see new attacking additions – particularly of his quality.

A prolific goal scorer from midfield, bagging a career total of 54 according to[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matheus-pereira/profil/spieler/225984), he also managed to rack up more shots on goal (2) and key passes per 90 (1.8) than any Baggies player over 2020/2021 ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/175/Show/England-West-Bromwich-Albion)).

Lauded as a ‘really exciting’ player by former England international Emile Heskey ([HITC](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/04/28/exclusive-heskey-thinks-johnstones-exciting-teammate-will-leave-west-brom-too/)), signing Pereira could be one of West Ham’s biggest moves of the year – if the deal goes through.
