# West Ham United: Hammers want Wout Weghorst

**As explained in [the Athletic’s scout report for Euro 2020](https://theathletic.com/2638584/?source=ukdf), West Ham United are now one of the teams interested in signing VFL Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst this summer.**

### The Lowdown: West Ham in the striker hunt…

Manager David Moyes reportedly has three priorities for West Ham this summer in a new central defender, permanent deal for Jesse Lingard and a fresh centre-forward ([Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/moyes-has-three-signing-priorities/)).

Striker Michail Antonio suffered his[fair share of injury problems](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/apr/09/michael-antonio-could-miss-rest-of-season-west-ham-david-moyes) over 2020/2021 and the Hammers are on the look out for fresh additions to their forward line.

West Ham have been linked with a [host of attackers](https://www.patreon.com/posts/exwhuemployee-49079836?utm_medium=post_notification_email&utm_source=post_link&utm_campaign=patron_engagement&token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJyZWRpc19rZXkiOiJpbnN0YW50LWFjY2Vzczo3M2JjNWI0Yi0wYzc3LTRhMjktYmE3Mi02MzVjYmJkZjU5ZTYifQ.X_dE9HYebEkhwoT_SQRAPUD5o_tlsM36hCBjjTffz7I) as another name now enters the fray.

### The Latest: West Ham want Weghorst…

As explained by the Athletic in their scouting guide for Euro 2020, Weghorst is now attracting interest from West Ham.

There is also an understanding that he will be allowed to leave if ‘certain conditions’ are met, namely his [€30 million (£25.9m)](https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2021/06/09102309/TheAthletic_TheRadar_Final_PP_20MB_09.pdf) price tag.

Wolfsburg are expecting concrete offers for their talismanic striker this summer, and with such a reasonable price tag, a move to the Premier League could beckon, as explained in the report.

### The Verdict: A must…

Scoring a fantastic [25 goals in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/leistungsdaten/spieler/228645) last season for the Bundesliga side, all while assisting nine of his teammates, it’s safe to say Weghorst is a monster up front.

Austrian tactician Oliver Glasner, who coached the 28-year-old last season, lauded him as the ‘most dangerous player in front of goal’ he has ever coached ([Bundesliga](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/is-wolfsburg-s-wout-weghorst-the-most-underrated-striker-in-europe-14061)).

Meanwhile, in an interview with [FootballFanCast](https://www.footballfancast.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/exclusive-bundesliga-specialist-says-weghorst-would-be-perfect-kane-replacement-e84), Get German Football News editor-in-chief Daniel Pinder explained how he is ‘similar’ to legendary Premier League forward Ruud van Nistelrooy.

At around £25m, he could be a real steal for the Hammers.
