# West Ham United: Irons set to step up their interest in Josh Brownhill

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) are set to step up their interest in midfielder Josh Brownhill after Burnley were relegated from the Premier League, reports 90min journalist Toby Cudworth.**

### **The Lowdown: Lack of depth**

The Hammers are looking to add depth to David Moyes’ squad this summer after their sensational Europa League run visibly strained the players’ fitness, with a number of injuries occurring along the way.

With club legend Mark Noble having retired at the end of the season and Alex Kral [seemingly](https://www.westhamzone.com/news/west-ham-will-not-sign-alex-kral-permanently-next-season-after-loan-disaster/) not part of Moyes’ plans whatsoever, the Irons will surely be looking to bring in an extra midfielder to fill the deficit.

### **The Latest: Irons interested in Brownhill**

90min journalist [Toby Cudworth](https://twitter.com/Toby_Cudworth/status/1528798356788609024) has revealed that West Ham are now ready to enter the market for Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, interest which has [previously](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-transfer-rumours/west-ham-transfer-rumours-burnley-90min-moyes-brownhill-update-whufc-latest/) been spoken about in the press.

Taking to[Twitter](https://twitter.com/Toby_Cudworth/status/1528798356788609024), Cudworth claimed: *“Anticipate Josh Brownhill interest to step up too after Burnley’s relegation.”*

In the [attached article](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-holding-talks-with-rennes-for-nayef-aguerd), it is reported that the 26-year-old should be available for a reasonably cheap price after Burnley’s relegation – [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-brownhill/profil/spieler/293569) value him at just £6.3m.

### **The Verdict: Good signing**

Former Aston Villa midfielder [Lee Hendrie](https://thisisfutbol.com/2021/03/blogs/premier-league/aston-villa/aston-villa-lee-hendrie-praises-josh-brownhill-following-recent-links-e56/) has spoken of his admiration for Brownhill, saying that he’s “a fabulous player” who reminds him of John McGinn.

Having played [35 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-brownhill/leistungsdaten/spieler/293569) in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) this season, and considering two of the three he missed were due to Covid-19, the midfielder’s durability would come as a huge bonus to Moyes, especially with another European campaign to embark upon next term.

In fact, the Englishman has missed just [seven games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-brownhill/verletzungen/spieler/293569) through injury in his entire Burnley career, and if West Ham can get the deal over the line for a cut-price this will be a shrewd singing for the east London club, providing depth in a key area and keeping plenty of funds left for other positions.
