# West Ham United: Jack Wilshere returns to training and could feature against Spurs

**West Ham could be facing a potential injury boost ahead of the visit of Tottenham after the international break, according to [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/fitness-boost-for-the-irons/).**

Jack Wilshere – whose entire career has been plagued by consistent [injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-wilshere/verletzungen/spieler/74223) – picked up a groin strain against Everton last month and had been sidelined from action ever since, but has now returned to first-team training ahead of next weekend’s tie at the London Stadium.

This is especially crucial given the [recent injury](https://readwestham.com/2019/11/15/jack-wilshere-back-in-training-and-could-feature-against-spurs/) to captain Mark Noble.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder, who has only made [six Premier League appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-wilshere/leistungsdaten/spieler/74223) for the Hammers this season (only two of those coming from the start), has missed the Irons’ previous three league games.

However, the east Londoners have taken just a single point from a possible 12 in those three matches against Sheffield United, Newcastle and Burnley, drawing 1-1 with the Blades at the end of October.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side face Tottenham next weekend in Saturday’s early kick-off, in a huge match that they will perhaps feel confident in taking something from considering their opponents’ [dreadful away form](https://uk.soccerway.com/teams/england/tottenham-hotspur-football-club/675/matches/).

Spurs haven’t won away in the league since January and are currently really struggling this term. The north London club sit [14th](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) in the top flight as things stand – just [one point and two spaces](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) above West Ham – heading into next week’s London derby.

A win for the Hammers would see them overtake Mauricio Pochettino’s men, though a defeat does leave them open to being [leapfrogged](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) by 17th-placed Aston Villa, should the West Midland side beat Newcastle in their respective fixture at Villa Park.

Having Jack Wilshere back in the side to face a team that he has such a passionate, personal rivalry with due to his years at Arsenal will be a huge boost for West Ham.

Early [reports](https://readwestham.com/2019/11/15/jack-wilshere-back-in-training-and-could-feature-against-spurs/) suggest that Noble could miss next week’s clash through injury, so having a player of Wilshere’s quality to replace him in the heart of midfield, next to Declan Rice, can only be viewed as a positive for the Irons.
