# West Ham United: Javier Hernandez back from injury

**Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Javier Hernandez has recovered from injury and is ready for the Norwich City game on Saturday, as reported on [West Ham United’s official website](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/august/29-august/team-news-chicharito-fit-norwich-test-antonio-set-scan).**

The Hammers striker missed the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Newport County after picking up a [**knee problem**](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/august/29-august/team-news-chicharito-fit-norwich-test-antonio-set-scan) in training.

The 31-year-old, who has been [**recalled**](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/august/29-august/team-news-chicharito-fit-norwich-test-antonio-set-scan) to the Mexico national team squad after missing the Gold Cup, will likely be in contention with Albian Ajeti for a place on the bench against the Canaries, with Sebastien Haller the club’s main striker.

Hernandez has made one start and one substitute appearance this season, both of which have come in the Premier League, as per [**WhoScored**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/35003/Show/Chicharito).

West Ham’s number 9 got his first goal of the campaign in his first start, when he got on the end of a Manuel Lanzini through ball and placed the ball past the goalkeeper, earning West Ham a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion and their first point of 2019/20.

Last year, he showed how useful he can be coming off the bench, scoring[**seven league goals**](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/35003/History/Chicharito) despite making 14 starts and 11 substitute appearances – with his ability to change a game being shown when he [**scored twice**](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47505640) against Huddersfield Town to turn a loss into a win for the men in claret and blue.

Having Hernandez as an option off the bench will undoubtedly be useful for Pellegrini, especially in a game which could see a lot of goals, with Norwich having [**scored six**](https://www.google.co.uk/search?ei=j_NoXbHHF7SH1fAPo4Gr-AY&q=premier+league+table+2019%2F20&oq=premier+league+table+2019%2F20&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0j0i7i30l2j0l3j0i7i30j0j0i7i30l2.3907.4610..4771...0.2..0.59.316.6......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j0i13.nlpbHbQ6X0c&ved=0ahUKEwjxyrrzqqrkAhW0QxUIHaPACm8Q4dUDCAo&uact=5#sie=lg;/g/11fj6snmjm;2;/m/02_tc;st;fp;1;;) and conceded eight already.

Ajeti’s performance against Newport was okay, as he was given a rating of 6 by [**football.london**](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/fixtures-results/west-ham-player-ratings-vs-16825105), but Hernandez is likely to continue as the club’s second choice striker for now.
