# West Ham: Irons interested in move for Justin Kluivert

**[West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) are interested in a move for AS Roma forward Justin Kluivert, according to an Italian outlet.**

### The Lowdown: Attacking priority

After securing the signings of Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola, David Moyes will now be focusing on targeting other areas of the pitch, and the final third is a position which desperately needs attention.

The 23-year-old first [joined](https://www.asroma.com/en/news/2018/6/justin-kluivert-signs-for-roma) the Serie A side in 2018, but he spent last season out [on loan](https://romapress.net/official-justin-kluivert-joins-ogc-nice-on-loan-from-roma/) at Nice, creating a good name for himself and seemingly attracting attention from the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/), particularly from the London Stadium.

### The Latest: West Ham keen on Kluivert

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/dutch-forward-liked-west-ham-hammers-will-need-meet-e15m-asking-price/)), it is claimed that Kluivert is ‘liked’ by West Ham, alongside suitors in France, but nobody has yet ‘managed to pay’ the €15m (£12.6m) or so which would be needed to sign him.

The source stated that, if the Irons want to secure a deal for the winger, they will need to ‘open their chequebook’ a bit more, something which GSB seem ‘happy to do’ for the right player, given the business that they’ve already completed this summer.

### The Verdict: Get it done

Michail Antonio is currently the [only natural striker](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/kadernachposition/verein/379) that David Moyes has in his squad, so it’s vital that West Ham tie down a new centre-forward before the start of the new season.

Kluivert, who was [praised](https://taketonews.com/praise-for-justin-kluivert-he-brings-depth-and-technical-qualities-football/) by his former Nice boss Christophe Galtier for having great ‘technical qualities’, was in fine form for the Ligue 1 club last season, recording 12 goal contributions in 31 appearances across all competitions, as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/justin-kluivert/leistungsdaten/spieler/330659/plus/0?saison=2021).

This kind of return will surely appeal to Moyes, who has been missing someone to provide competition and backup to Antonio, but the Irons will need to consider submitting a bid soon if they are serious about gaining the Dutchman’s services in time for the next campaign.
