# West Ham United: Moussa Dembele tipped to sign for Irons by Alex McLeish

**Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-are-hugely-ambitious-exclusive-mcleish-wowed-by-jan-transfer-pursuit/), former Premier League boss Alex McLeish has tipped West Ham to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele amid recent claims the Hammers are [plotting a move.](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/13135524/west-ham-transfer-dembele-lyon-man-utd/)**

Dembele, who enjoyed a fine season for the Ligue 1 giants last campaign, scoring [24 goals in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-dembele/profil/spieler/229004), could be on the way out as he is struggling for regular game time.

The Frenchman, who could have been at the centre of a ‘[fallout](https://www.footballinsider247.com/something-has-happened-a-fallout-exclusive-pundit-on-west-ham-transfer-report/)‘, looks more likely than ever to exit Lyon – with a move to the Premier League seemingly on the cards as West Ham register their intent.

### McLeish tips Dembele to sign

Now, McLeish has praised the Hammers for chasing Dembele and has tipped them to land a ‘proven goalscorer’ – going on to claim the club are ‘hugely ambitious’ in pursuit of the attacker.

“Dembele’s been linked for a long time with English teams,” explained the pundit to [Football Insider.](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-are-hugely-ambitious-exclusive-mcleish-wowed-by-jan-transfer-pursuit/)

“David Moyes, with Antonio injured for a while, he’s maybe a little bit short in that department and it seems like David flourishes more with a player whose hold-up play is extremely good.

“I wasn’t sure if he was top level but I guess if he was then Liverpool, Man City and that would be coming in for him – Man United were linked with him. West Ham are hugely ambitious and they will have done their homework and superbly well enough to say that if Dembele comes in, I would say that they must have done their homework, 100 per cent.”

### Transfer Tavern take

Whether or not Moyes manages to land this ‘[fantastic](https://www.footballinsider247.com/something-has-happened-a-fallout-exclusive-pundit-on-west-ham-transfer-report/)‘ signing remains to be seen, but the [£80,000-per-week ace](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1258578/Moussa-Dembele-salary-wages-Dembele-Chelsea-transfer-news-gossip) would certainly reinforce his forward line.
