# West Ham United: talkSPORT reporter makes live on air claim involving Ben Brereton

**talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, speaking live on air yesterday (via [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/brereton-diaz-battle-on-as-hammers-rival-leeds-in-transfer-deadly-striker)), has now broken some West Ham United transfer news involving Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton.**

### The Lowdown: Striker hunt on…

Nearly a year since club record signing Sebastien Haller left the London Stadium for Ajax, West Ham have still not officially signed his replacement despite the [many links](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10306467/West-Ham-tracking-progress-New-York-City-striker-Valentin-Castellanos.html) and [confirmed bids made.](https://www.claretandhugh.info/moyes-confirms-transfer-bid/)

Manager David Moyes admitted over the summer window he was ‘[desperate](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-news-striker-moyes-b952699.html)‘ to sign a striker as competition and back up for Michail Antonio, with that position, an emergency centre-half and Jesse Lingard thought to be his priorities for January.

Some new names have emerged recently, like[New York City FC striker Valentin Castellanos](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10306467/West-Ham-tracking-progress-New-York-City-striker-Valentin-Castellanos.html), with talkSPORT journalist Crook now breaking news on yet another target.

### The Latest: Crook makes live on air claim…

Speaking live on air yesterday, via [TEAMtalk,](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/brereton-diaz-battle-on-as-hammers-rival-leeds-in-transfer-deadly-striker) the reporter says that West Ham have now joined the race to sign Rovers striker Brereton following his impressive Championship campaign so far.

Making a claim on the South American, Crook name dropped the Irons as an interested party.

He explained:

*“We understand he is attracting interest from the likes of Leeds and West Ham in the Premier League.”*

### The Verdict: Outstanding new target…

The Chile international with three goals in just nine caps has been a revelation for Rovers this campaign, scoring 17 goals and assisting one other in just [22 English second tier appearances.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/426192)

Scoring [34 goals in the Championship](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-brereton-diaz/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/426192) overall since the beginning of his senior career, Brereton has come on leaps and bounds in front of goal – leaving little wonder why he is attracting Premier League interest.

Called a [‘beast’](https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/boss-buoyed-by-new-look-brereton/) by Rovers boss Tony Mowbray, it is unclear at the moment how much the club will want for their star man, but he could be a solid outside candidate to be targeted by West Ham.
