# West Ham: Irons interested in Oleksandr Zinchenko

**According to Evening Standard journalist Simon Collings, [West Ham United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/) are interested in signing [Manchester City](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-city-news/) defender Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer.**

### **The Lowdown: Zinchenko’s future**

Amid rumours of an [exit](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-zinchenko-transfer-arsenal-24107606) from the Etihad Stadium, the Ukraine international decided to put [discussions over his future on hold](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/arsenal-transfer-news-zinchenko-west-ham-b1004268.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1654506168) as his nation pushed for World Cup qualification.

Following an unfortunate [defeat to Wales in the play-off final](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/jun/05/wales-ukraine-world-cup-2022-playoff-final-match-report), clubs are now hoping to find out in the near future exactly what the 25-year-old’s next move will be.

Rumours of a City departure have arisen, with the defender understood to be [eager to secure more regular game-time](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-zinchenko-transfer-arsenal-24107606), having made just [15 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/leistungsdaten/spieler/203853) in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) this season.

### **The Latest: Collings’ update on Zinchenko**

It has been [recently reported that Arsenal](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blog-transfer-talk/story/4675796/live-transfer-talk-arsenal-keen-on-manchester-citys-oleksandr-zinchenko) are keen on signing the Ukrainian this summer, as they look to add versatile depth to their ranks.

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/sr_collings/status/1533736353678098432) in sharing a corresponding article from the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/arsenal-transfer-news-zinchenko-west-ham-b1004268.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1654506168), Collings has now shared the latest transfer news involving the 25-year-old, as he claimed: “Arsenal and West Ham two of the clubs interested in Zinchenko.”

### **The Verdict: He’d be a great signing**

With first-choice Hammers left-back [Aaron Cresswell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aaron-cresswell/profil/spieler/92571) now approaching his 33rd birthday, West Ham could be looking to sign an adequate replacement this summer.

At just 25 years old, Zinchenko is already Premier League proven, given his [76 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/leistungsdaten/spieler/203853) in the English top flight and the [11 trophies](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/erfolge/spieler/203853) he has won at the Etihad.

Also, compared with Cresswell, the City left-back had a greater passing accuracy rate and more tackles, interceptions, crosses and shot-creating actions per 90 minutes during the 2021/22 season, as per [FBRef](https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=0&comp_type=by_type&dom_lg=1&spec_comps=big_5&player_id1=51cf8561&p1yrfrom=2021-2022&player_id2=4f974391&p2yrfrom=2021-2022).

Hailed as an [‘incredible’](https://www.mancity.com/citytv/interviews/2019/february/man-city-pep-guardiola-press-conference-west-ham-part-one) player and person by his manager Pep Guardiola, the Ukraine international would be an asset to many top teams, given his [versatility](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/oleksandr-zinchenko/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/203853) to play as a full-back or in midfield.

When combined with his outstanding [attitude and work ethic](https://breakingthelines.com/opinion/oleksandr-zinchenkos-unexpected-breakthrough/), Zinchenko’s prospective arrival at the London Stadium would be a great signing for David Moyes.
