# What does the future hold for Dean Henderson?

**He’s been rather impressive, hasn’t he? Dean Henderson has helped make Sheffield United tick and, although making the deal permanent would be a big ask, it would be an added bonus to the Blades’ remarkable campaign.**

Now in his third year of playing regular, professional football, Henderson has stepped up to the plate each time and improved year upon year; first in League Two with Grimsby Town; then in League One with Shrewsbury Town; and now in the Championship with United.\

The 22-year-old has started every Championship game a season in which Chris Wilder’s side have certainly stepped up their game. Henderson has helped clock up 17 clean sheets in 38 games, the most in the division, with seven of them coming in United’s last seven games.

As a result of his form for the Championship outfit, many fans have been left pondering the question: what is next for Henderson?

Well, he could head back to Manchester and battle it out with Sergio Romero for the number two goalkeeper position, unless, Romero is sold which would allow Henderson to feature in the cup games as the certain second-choice goalkeeper. David de Gea’s contract does expire next summer but it will surely be extended, meaning that number one spot will still be obtained for a number of years.

Alternatively, he could move from the Red Devils to Sheffield permanently in a deal which the Blades would surely have to fork out a significant fee for a potential senior England ‘keeper. If they were to reach the Premier League, that could be done so with the money earned from TV rights, but if they do miss out on promotion, Henderson could make the step up without the Blades as some of his displays this season will have certainly caught the eye of some of the top division sides.

If Manchester United do sell him, they could take a leaf out of their cross-city rivals’ book and add a buy-back clause as, although the original fee may be lower with one, if they do see him as a potential successor to De Gea, it may well be worth it in the long-term as they at least have that option in the future.

Either way, Henderson has a prosperous career in the game, it is just playing week-in-week-out Premier League football, potentially at Bramall Lane, would enable him to develop further.
