# Rangers: Noel Whelan slams Alfredo Morelos

**Noel Whelan has called Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos “petulant” after his clash with Scott Brown in the Old Firm on Saturday.**

### **Whelan slams Morelos**

[Rangers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/) were the deserved victors against Celtic this past weekend as they won 2-0. In fact, their fierce city rivals [could not even manage a shot on target](https://www.sofascore.com/celtic-rangers/bXscX) in the match.

The only blemish was Morelos’ altercation with Brown. The Colombia international slapped the 35-year-old on the back of the head, but escaped punishment.

[Talking to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-whelan-slaughters-childish-rangers-player-after-horrible-sight/), Whelan was far from impressed with the 24-year-old’s behaviour. He said:

> *“Steven Gerrard appeared to have cut out that petulance from his game but it is still down there, deep down.*
>
> *“We saw it come out again and that moment could have been pivotal in the game. It could have been a game-changer. You cannot do that.*
>
> *“You cannot raise your hand to anybody. It is a deliberate, aggressive movement towards another player. It is a red card by anyone’s books.*
>
> *“It is horrible to see that creep back into his game. For me, it is unacceptable. It is petulant and childish. He should be worrying about getting on the scoresheet.”*

### **Morelos needs to stop this petulance**

It is hard to not to agree with Whelan – this is something [£13.5m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/marktwertverlauf/spieler/338962) Morelos (as per Transfermarkt) must cut out. He has already received two red cards against Celtic, whilst he has picked up [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/338962) overall since joining from HJK Helsinki in 2017. He may be a fantastic forward, but his temperament makes him a liability at times.

Not only does it affect his contribution to Steven Gerrard’s squad, but it could scupper him a move elsewhere. Everyone is aware that he will not end his career at Ibrox, and 82 goals in 150 games should earn him a move to a [more prestigious league,](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/5859535/rangers-alfredo-morelos-lille-competitive-league/) as he clearly desires. However, if he cannot control himself on the pitch, he will continue to put off any potential suitors, forcing him to miss out on a big opportunity and the Gers to miss out on a potentially big pay day.
