# West Ham United: Fans erupt at Jesse Lingard claim

**According to reports by [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3025315/2021/12/20/ornstein-newcastle-granted-permission-to-talk-to-ashworth-congerton-to-atalanta-lingard-staying-kanes-tackle-explained/?source=emp_shared_article)’s David Ornstein, Jesse Lingard has decided that he will not be leaving Manchester United in January.**

The journalist wrote that the player has chosen to remain at Manchester United and intends to battle his way into interim manager Ralf Ragnick’s plans, ruling out a move in the upcoming January transfer window.

This comes after The Mirror reported ([via The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/manchester-united-west-ham-jesse-lingard-b1968246.html)) that West Ham were looking to bring in the 29-year-old on a permanent deal in the January window.

Lingard has played just [87 minutes of Premier League football this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660/saison/2021/plus/1#gesamt), having come on as a substitute in each of his eight appearances. The attacking midfielder is set to enter the [last six months of his contract](https://theathletic.com/3025315/2021/12/20/ornstein-newcastle-granted-permission-to-talk-to-ashworth-congerton-to-atalanta-lingard-staying-kanes-tackle-explained/?source=emp_shared_article) after talks over a new deal at Old Trafford failed to progress during the summer.

The Englishman enjoyed a fantastic spell on loan at West Ham for the [second half of the 2020/21 season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/141660/verein/379), where he scored nine goals and produced five assists in 16 appearances for the club.
