Arsenal continued their unbeaten run today as they defeated Huddersfield 1-0 in a game where they didn’t play at their best.
The Gunners have now gone 21 games unbeaten this season with their most recent win pushing them back into the top four. After a frustrating 1-1 draw with Man U in midweek, Arsenal needed to get the win in order to keep up their hunt of the top four.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, they lost Rob Holding to a serious injury against Man U and the young defender will now miss the rest of this season. To add even more woe to Arsenal’s injury crisis, Shkodran Mustafi hobbled out of today’s game with a suspected hamstring injury.
It now means that Arsenal only have two out and out defenders at the club, and therefore they must sign a new defender in January to keep fill the huge void in defence.
The £18 million-rated defender has been a revelation for Espanyol this season and has been one of the best players in La Liga this season. Due to his superb performances in the league, Espanyol have become one of the better sides in the league despite their run of three consecutive losses.
The young defender was signed from Real Madrid last season and made 22 appearances for the club. This year, however, he has taken his game to a new level and his defensive awareness has been superb. He’s mobile, physical and looks like he could be a good fit in the league.
He’s good with the ball and has the ability to play long diagonals from the back but will need to improve to fit into Emery’s style of play. He would, however, be a brilliant addition to the side.
