# Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans bemoan update concerning Olympiacos tie

**Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were bemoaning the latest news about their Europa League tie with Olympiacos this Thursday.**

The [club](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/club/20200309-thursdays-tie-to-be-played-behind-closed-doors/) confirmed that the Greek government and UEFA are making the two clubs play their fixture behind closed doors due to the increasing coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the country. It will be a bitter blow to the supporters, who would’ve been watching Wolves play in the last-16 of a European competition for the first time since the 1971-72 UEFA Cup [(via BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51623249).

One fan called the decision ‘ridiculous’.

> So what’s going to happen between now and May to make any games ‘safe’ – this is a ridiculous decision based on a knee jerk reaction

The Midlands outfit are having a brilliant season in Europe’s second-tier competition and have scored the [joint-most goals](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/statistics/) this campaign.

However, they come up against an Olympiacos side, who saw off Arsenal after extra-time in the Round of 32. Fans were left lashing out especially due to the fact the decision has been taken just a few days before the game is supposed to take place. Here are a selection of tweets:

> Where do the 1,000 of us who have already booked go in Athens to watch the game then?

> Deafening silence for 24 hours then no mention of the hundreds of pounds wasted by a thousand die hard Wolves fans following our team. Might has well have signed this off by saying ‘tough shit’.

> Gutting for the fans planning on going but was to be expected

One fan even resorted to sarcasm as he responded to the news:

> Cheers for giving us enough notice
