# Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans laud Christian Marques after contract news emerges

**Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were lauding Christian Marques after the player signed his first-ever professional contract.**

The defender has been with Wolves since joining the club in March 2019 from Swiss outfit Grasshopper Club Zürich for a fee believed to be just £558k [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-marques/transfers/spieler/539807). Marques has been a revelation for the club and was even named [captain for the under-23s](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/academy/20200311-marques-signs-pro-contract/) despite being just 17-years-old, making him the [youngest ever skipper](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/academy/20200311-marques-signs-pro-contract/) of the side’s development team.

It seems as though a fast track to the first-team could be on the horizon for the youngster especially with Nuno Espirito Santo possessing just three centre-backs in his first-team squad [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.com.mt/wolverhampton-wanderers/kader/verein/543). Head of the academy, [Scott Sellars](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/academy/20200311-marques-signs-pro-contract/), lauded him for his quick progression, claiming it shocked people at the club. Supporters were full of praise for the youth team player, who could be set for the senior side in the near future as they took to Twitter to react. Here is a selection of tweets:
